    Cali and Lucky

    Cali and Lucky

    Date in: 3/18/2012

    Age on intake: 1 year

    Breed: DSH

    Gender: Spayed females

Cali and Lucky came to the shelter when their owner passed away very suddenly in a freak accident. They are true sisters, littermates who were adopted as kittens and have remained close as they matured. Cali was adopted first, then her previous owner went bad the next day to bring Lucky home as she couldn’t stand separating them. The sisters must be adopted together. Both are super cuddly and good with other cats, dogs, and kids. Lucky is the more outgoing of the two. She is a complete ham and acts more like a dog than a cat sometimes. She loves to play and will follow you around the house. As soon as she can, she takes the opportunity to jump into your lap and smother you in kitty kisses. Cali is a more timid and takes a few days to get to know new people, but once she does, she is a huge love bug and snuggler. Because Cali and Lucky must be adopted together, there is a special adoption fee of $100 for the pair.

    Ophelia

    Ophelia

    Date In:  1/20/12

    Age on intake:  3 years

    Breed:  DSH

    Gender:  Spayed female

Opehlia has has a very rough few months. She was surrendered to the shelter and then adopted out to a nice family, but they didn’t quite understand Ophelia‘s needs. The household was too noisy for her and she was given full run of the house much too soon, before she could get comfortable with her surroundings. One day she got scared and took off into the attic, and ended up beneath the floorboards. She stayed there for weeks, only venturing out for food and a little bit of water. She didn’t want to stay in the attic but she was too afraid to come out, until one day she was a brave girl and went into a trap that was set out for her. She was brought back to the shelter, and volunteers cleaned up her white coat- now stained a sooty gray. With a little extra attention, Ophelia has gotten comfortable again and is eager to begin life in a home that is right for her.

Ophelia would be happiest with an older person- someone quiet- and without children in the household.   She wants soft things to lay on and quiet people. She’s a ‘table top’ cat in that she likes to sit on small tables in main rooms.  She doesn’t REALLY like to hide when she feels safe.   Ophelia has stolen the hears the shelter volunteers who have worked with her and also counseled the family in rescuing her from the attic. She is sweet underneath all the fear, and patiently waiting for quiet home where she can watch birds from indoors and take naps on a very special lap.

    * Declawed

Klowee is a long haired, maybe with some Maine Coon in her lineage. A natural beauty, this elegant lady would be comfortable on any high-fashion catwalk with her long, graceful body and magnificent coat. Look closely at her paws beneath all that fur and you’ll find that she’s declawed. Therefore, Klowee must be a strictly “indoor only” kitty, as she has no defense. This queen of feline whim would rather be basking in the soft, filtered light of a windowsill anyway. Klowee expects all the attention herself and would be happiest as the only cat in a home.

Severin is a beautiful lady with a streak of independence who is awaiting a home where she is allowed to be herself. Severin wants affection and is generally sweet, but when she’s had enough or thinks she’s being pushed around, she can get swatty or give a warning nip…not hard, but enough to tell you to stop whatever you’re doing. With this in mind, Severin wouldn’t be a good choice for a family with young children. Older children would learn to read her signals and know it’s time to find something else to do.

Like all dogs, Chablis would benefit from training and would most definitely enjoy the bonding time with her new owner. When she went home a few weeks ago, she thought she was starting a new life. Chablis loves people and just doesn’t understand why the love wasn’t returned. Now she’s ready to go home for good.

Snickers is the sweet mother of all of the “candy kittens.” She was surrendered with five of her kittens from two separate litters. We have no idea how many kids she has had in all, exactly what happened to the others, nor all the fine details of her all-too-common story. We do know that Mama herself is just 2 years old– she had her first litter when she was not much more than a kitten herself– and the dear girl is worn out. Snickers has been the nurturer and now needs to be nurtured. It’s time for this loving mom, whose mothering days are finally done, to find someone willing to give her a chance at the good life she deserves.

    Breed:  American Staffordshire terrier

    Gender: Neutered male

Despite his rough start as a stray, Oasis is a happy-go-lucky glass half full sort of guy. He absolutely LOVES to play fetch. He is a natural and brings the ball right back without any coaxing. If Oasis gets too close with that soggy tennis ball, just tell him to “back up” and he’ll scoot backward with a tilt of the head and prick of his ears as if to say, “is that good?” Although fun and games are his forte, Oasis is working hard at his basic obedience training so he can be a well-mannered member of his new home. When get gets excited, his entire body wiggles like jelly. Oasis always has a huge grin on his face  and is anxiously awaiting the time when he can make someone, or an entire family, the center of his world. He has enough love to go around and is sure to bring with him a lot of laughter and smiles.

    Cian

    Cian

    Date In:  8/22/11

    Age on intake:  3 years

    Breed:  Retriever mix

    Gender:Spayed female

Cian first came to the shelter in August 2011 and has been in a foster home since February 2012 where she has learned so much about being a good pet! She loves to be hugged and kissed, to play tug-of-war, retrieve a tennis ball and to romp with her foster-brother in the yard. She also loves riding in the car and going for walks, although she gets nervous when a car speeds by her while on her walk.
It is easy to become enamored by her appearance- her absolutely gorgeous red, medium coat, and cute little dappled paws make her irresistible. She is housebroken and crate trained and tries very hard to please by following the rules although she is sometimes impulsive. She is a high-energy young dog who needs a person willing to commit to continuing her training.
Cian has been evaluated by two trainers and both have found her to be a quick study. She is definitely high-energy, but also intelligent and eager to work once someone takes control. She is training on a head collar and accepted it very easily, and settled down nicely with the little bit of discipline. She seems to really want a family to be part of. She displayed a lot of potential when tested her on some basic agility obstacles. She would likely be very good as a performance dog or in any other situation where can channel her energy through playing with children or another dog.
Cian really is a great little girl, but she needs the right person to give her a chance. She will certainly pay back ten-fold whomever is willing to put a little extra effort into her. It seems like she was totally ignored in her pre-shelter life but loves family life in her foster home!
    * Cian is in a foster home. Please e-mail info@mc-spca.org to make arrangements to meet her!
